Why Organic?

Skin sensitivities in children over the last 10 years has more than tripled!  Many children have varied allergies to irritants such as grass, pollen, dust, food and believe it or not sensitivity to certain bath and body products.

These allergies can present in a variety of ways the obvious symptoms include redness, itchiness, dry or flaky and inflamed skin.  Also other dermatological conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
 
But while the symptoms of some skin irritations can be cleared up quite quickly with creams that are riddled with synthetic active ingredients such as cortisone and other steroid type ingredients. They can not be controlled unless suitable skincare products are continuously used to maintain a good healthy skin. So unless the skin is healthy the symptoms will always reappear. Let me explain. Many products are lathed in ingredients such as:

Petrochemicals - chemical products made from raw materials of petroleum or other hydrocarbon origin. Although some of the chemical compounds that originate from petroleum may also be derived from coal and natural gas, petroleum is the major source

Mineral oil – Also known as (liquid petroleum) is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce petroleum based products from crude oil. It is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes (typically 15 to 40 carbons) and cyclic paraffin’s, related to petroleum jelly (also known as "white petrolatum"). Mineral oil is a substance of relatively low value, and it is produced in very large quantities. It is this base product that “Vicks” is made from not to mention many nappy barrier creams.

Parabens - are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. They can be found in shampoos, moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution and toothpaste. Paraben preservatives are listed under multiple names and are used to preserve the majority of cosmetics on the market today, not only to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi but also to promote the abnormally long shelf-life of products. Paraben preserved cosmetics ensure that the cosmetic manufacturer can produce the product in masse and take comfort in a multi-year shelf life. Paraben preservatives have recently come into question with new studies that link the daily exposure of paraben preservatives to breast cancer and endocrine-disruption issues.
Has this scared you enough… It is ingredients such as these that create dryness, irritations and eczema, dermatitis and other dermal conditions.

Shea Butter - moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, helps with scars, eczema, burns, and rashes.  Also provides natural ultraviolet sun protection (SPF 4-6).

Sunflower Oil – vitamin E, it retains moisture in the skin, provides a protective barrier that resists infection.  Research suggests that infants can benefit from sunflower oil treatments for example Infections decreased by 41% in infants that received a daily skin treatment of sunflower oil.*
